The “Say Something” Journey

In January 2021, I woke up with the song "Say Something" by Christina Aguilera playing in my head. It's not unusual for a song to be playing in my head when I wake up; the Holy Spirit has been using music as my alarm clock for many years. But it's usually a Christian song, so the use of secular music was peculiar. I'd never heard the whole song, either, and I didn't know the rest of the words. Believing that it probably hadn’t come from the Holy Spirit after all, I just brushed it off and stopped paying attention
But this continued for four days in a row. "Say Something" was my daily wake up song. This rarely happens, so the Holy Spirit now had my full attention. I listened to the entire song to hear all the words. I thought to myself "This song is depressing. Why would the Holy Spirit bring it into my thoughts?". Another week went by with the same daily wake up music. I then reminded the Holy Spirit that He doesn't give up on people (Hebrews 13:5, John 3:16, Hebrews 6:11-12, Romans 8:39, John 6:37, Deuteronomy 31:6).
I asked Him "Is this song from you? And what are You trying to tell me?" He replied with a "yes", and then I asked "Why that song? It's so depressing!" He said He chose that song because He wants me to "say something" that I haven't stepped out to say. I reminded Him of the things I've said and done that I thought were in His service. He said "Yes, but I want you to go out into the world and speak what is not being spoken."
I told the Holy Spirit that there are SO many other people speaking, and I don't think I have anything new to say. He reminded me of Darren Wilson's (creator of the movie "The Finger of God") testimony of "I'm number 16". It's a long story, so for the sake of time I won't share the whole thing here. But a brief summary is that God had asked many people to create the movie, and they would say "no" or ignore Him. The Holy Spirit continued to ask people, 15 to be exact, to partner with Him. Darren Wilson said "yes".
The Holy Spirit told me He was giving me an opportunity but would eventually move on because it was so paramount for what He had in store, what He needed done. I told the Lord I would do it if He guided me.
I woke up for 14 more days with that song playing in my head. I looked up all the Bible verses with the word "say" in them. I still didn't know what He wanted me to do, or how he wanted me to do it. A friend of mine had shared a new social media platform with me, and it occurred to me that the Holy Spirit may be in this. But I wasn't sure if He was calling me to use this platform. I knew nothing about it and would need more people to help carry it out. I continued to pray about the whole thing.
On February 10, 2021, in the middle of the day, I heard "Say Something" in my head. I got mad at God and shouted, "Stop! I don't know what You want me to do! I've already said yes, so tell me what to do or stop sending me this song!" Immediately, Mark Virkler's name popped into my head. I dismissed it. For about 5 minutes, I could not stop thinking about Dr. Virkler. I started praying for him, as I usually do when the Holy Spirit brings someone to my mind.
Then the Lord said, "Call him." I replied "Surely Lord, You don't want me to call him. He won't call me back, he's too busy." The Holy Spirit said nothing. Usually when I "talk back" to the Holy Spirit, He does NOT engage in conversation. I proceeded to my phone and started filling out the contact form on the “Communion With God” website. Cheryl emailed me with all the instructions for speaking with Dr. Virkler. Then Dr. Virkler called. I couldn't believe it!! He agreed that Clubhouse, the social media platform shared by my friend, was a good place to start. He added that if I wrote all of this up, he would post it on his blog.
I reached out to Dr. Virkler and his team hoping they could help me understand and maybe carry out what the Holy Spirit was asking of me. I am praying that the Holy Spirit is speaking to some of you, as well, calling you to help carry this out.
While waiting for Dr. Virkler's team to post the blog, I woke up on February 14th with the song "Jesus Christ Superstar" playing in my head. Another song I had never listened to, with words I didn't know. So, I listened to it and, once again, asked the Holy Spirit "Why this song?" He answered "Many people are asking the questions, am I real and am I who Christians say I am? They are hoping it's true because they're running out of options for hope in their life. There is little evidence in their life that I am who I say I am, so they don't believe."
Dr. Virkler posted a much longer version of this testimony on his blog. If you want to read it in its entirety here is the link.
Dr. Virkler’s most noted accomplishment is creating 4 keys to help people learn how to hear God’s voice for themselves.
Sixteen people contacted me as a result of the post. We have started a room on the Clubhouse app which meets every Wednesday morning at 5:00 a.m. Central Time. And a Zoom call on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. Central Time. We are talking about whatever the Holy Spirit leads us to talk about. The topics so far have been hearing the voice of God, sharing what each of us are hearing during our journaling time, how much He loves us and building support for the next move of God. We also share prayer requests.
