Coffee Mugs as Reminders

October 4, 1994, the Holy Spirit asked me to be one of His intercessors. I had not seen that

“office” in the Bible, or any stories about people being intercessors, except for Jesus being our mediator. I spoke with my spiritual teacher, and she gave me a book called “Rees Howells, Intercessor: The Story of A Life Lived For God” by Norman Grubb. I read the book and frankly felt overwhelmed. I learned that in the Bible when the term “watchmen” is used, it's speaking of intercessors. I didn't think I could ever stand in the gap for a person or cause long enough to see a prayer answered, or hear the Holy Spirit tell me what specifically to pray for someone I didn't know. I told Him “Yes” but asked Him to teach me.

Not long after that, I started receiving prayer requests through people and the Holy Spirit. I found myself forgetting to pray for some of them. When someone would ask if I was still praying for them, I'd be embarrassed that I had forgotten. One day I asked the Holy Spirit to provide a better reminder. The next month a friend of mine gave me a coffee mug for my birthday. I was so excited to use it! The following morning as I sat and drank my coffee, all I could think about was how pretty the mug was and how grateful I was that SHE had given it to me. The Holy Spirit said, “why don’t you pray for her since you're thinking about her?” What a great idea! The coffee mugs started arriving on a regular schedule. Sometimes for my birthday, Christmas, Mother’s Day, or just because the Holy Spirit moved upon their heart to give me a coffee mug. They didn’t know why they were giving me a coffee mug, but I did. Each time I use a coffee mug I pray for the person that gave it to me. Some mornings I open my cabinet and ask Him who needs prayer, and He tells me. The Holy Spirit answered my prayer in such a beautiful and simple way, about remembering who to pray for. He is so good!
