Regarding hearing the Holy Spirit:
One reason we need to hear from the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, for ourselves is everyone has a blind spot. No one has all the answers. When we hear a sermon, homily, Bible study teaching, or receive a word of knowledge or prophecy, we need to take it back to the Holy Spirit and ask Him to confirm it. As we have discussed before, He will confirm it through scripture in the Bible, an outward confirming circumstance and inner peace.
Fasting increases our ability to hear the Lord. Especially, if you are searching for the answer to an important question or needing to make an important decision.
Tired ears can’t hear. Sometimes we can’t hear from the Holy Spirit because we have been burning the candle at both ends. Rest is one of His provisions. Ask Him to bring you rest and peace and then seek after Him fresh and anew.
Do We Have Enough Oil?
“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish (thoughtless, without forethought) and five were wise (sensible, intelligent, and prudent). For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take any [extra] oil with them; But the wise took flasks of oil along with them [also] with their lamps. While the bridegroom lingered and was slow in coming, they all began nodding their heads, and they fell asleep. But at midnight there was a shout, Behold, the bridegroom! Go out to meet him! Then all those virgins got up and put their own lamps in order. And the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out. But the wise replied, There will not be enough for us and for you; go instead to the dealers and buy for yourselves. But while they were going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were prepared went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut. Later the other virgins also came and said, Lord, Lord, open [the door] to us! But He replied, I solemnly declare to you, I do not know you [I am not acquainted with you]. Watch therefore [give strict attention and be cautious and active], for you know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of Man will come.” Matthew 25:1-13 AMP
The story of the ten virgins is the fourth parable about being and staying prepared in the book of Matthew. This parable is ONLY found in the book of Matthew.
“Keep actively watching and praying that you may not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.” Matthew 26:41 - AMP
What is the oil that we need today?
Spending time with Him.
Reading the Word of God. Ask Holy Spirit to be with you as you read the word. It will go deeper and come to life.
God inhabits the praise of His people. There is power praise.
“But about midnight when Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them; there was a great earthquake, so [powerful] that the very foundations of the prison were shaken and at once all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were unfastened.” Acts 16:25-26 – AMP
I’m sure you can think of other things we need to tend to so we will have enough oil for our lamps. Remember it is about relationship.
“Send forth your spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.” Psalm 104:30 NABRE
Another translation...
“When You send forth Your Spirit and give them breath, they are created, and You replenish the face of the ground.” Psalm 104:30 AMP
“Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.” Isaiah 46:10 NLT
“Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Don’t be worried! Have faith in God and have faith in me.’” John 14:1 CEV
“Don’t you believe that I am one with the Father and that the Father is one with me? What I say isn’t said on my own. The Father who lives in me does these things. 11Have faith in me when I say that the Father is one with me and that I am one with the Father. Or else have faith in me simply because of the things I do. 12 I tell you for certain that if you have faith in me, you will do the same things that I am doing. You will do even greater things, now that I am going back to the Father. 13 Ask me, and I will do whatever you ask. This way the Son will bring honor to the Father. 14 I will do whatever you ask me to do. Jesus said to his disciples: If you love me, you will do as I command. 16 Then I will ask the Father to send you the Holy Spirit who will help you and always be with you. 17 The Spirit will show you what is true. The people of this world cannot accept the Spirit, because they don’t see or know him. But you know the Spirit, who is with you and will keep on living in you. I won’t leave you like orphans. I will come back to you. 19 In a little while the people of this world won’t be able to see me, but you will see me. And because I live, you will live. 20 Then you will know that I am one with the Father. You will know that you are one with me, and I am one with you. 21 If you love me, you will do what I have said, and my Father will love you. I will also love you and show you what I am like.” John 14:10-21 CEV
Remember at the beginning of the summer Jesus took us by the hand and we went with Him to “Summer Camp”? He now wants to take us to school. He is giving us a new backpack with fresh new pencils, pens, spirals, and notebooks. Interpretation, He wants to teach us something new. The only thing required from us is to show up, be open, pay attention to the details, and receive new strategies and surprises from Him. Just like children go to school in the fall, this is our season to learn new things from Him. Breath in the fresh wind from the Holy Spirit.
I apologize for leaving anything out. I also apologize for any misspelled words or bad grammar. I hope above all, this blesses each one of you!
